Our First Sunday

We were very excited to attend church in Madrid for the first time with our kids.  We stayed up very late Saturday night trying to  figure out the bus/subway schedules and fares.  We finally went to bed around 1 and had a hard time sleeping because of all the noise outside.  It sounded like a party going on right outside our window.

After taking this picture we realized we had missed the bus to Madrid by about 5 minutes. We were very disappointed since we were so eager to get out of the house, go to Madrid and meet some other members.
This is also the bus stop where Brent's work drops off the employees each day for lunch, giving them a 7.5 euro voucher to use at one of the town's restaurants.  Fortunately for us, this is only about a 30 second walk from our home so Brent will come home most days to eat lunch. He can then save up his vouchers to take his family out to eat once in a while :). He will also be able to be home when the kids get out of school since he eats lunch with everyone in Spain at 2.  During the siesta at 2 most everything in town closes down including the grocery stores and police stations and most for 3 hours.  We learned this quickly on one of our first days here as we tried to run to the grocery store for lunch food and realized we would have to wait until 5.

Here we are in our sun-room (Sunday room).  The wall of doors on the left open up all the way  so that one side is open for the warmer months.

We returned home, after missing the bus and threw together a primary lesson that turned into reading scriptures and ended about two hours later with a Spanish lesson of church words.

A few hours later, as we were napping from the late night, our very friendly neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves.  They are from Madrid and have lived here for 30 years.  The husband talked a long time to Brent even after we told him that Brent doesn't speak Spanish.  I guess we weren't clear and should have said he doesn't understand Spanish.   Since their kids are mostly grown they are great people to share one side of our house with, but they probably aren't thinking the same about us.  We continue to remind our kids to use quieter voices so they don't disturb the neighbors.

  1. i can't believe everything shuts down for a big "naptime"! haha that's so crazy. and i can't believe your kids sat still for 2 hours. that's awesome. i'm pretty sure if that were Kevin and I, we would have come home and fallen back to sleep...well, Kevin would have, and I would have tried to but ended up playing with Bronx instead. :)

  2. We had to get out coloring pages for Mason and Kamree to color while we read the scriptures, otherwise it would not have worked.
